Missouri ACEC Awards Firm Dual Grand Conceptor Awards

The American Council of Engineering Companies' (ACEC) Missouri Chapter presented its Grand Conceptor Award to two Burns & McDonnell projects, marking the first time Missouri ACEC has awarded dual Grand Conceptor awards.

Kansas City Power & Light's (KCP&L) Iatan Generation Station Unit 2, near Weston, Mo., is one of the cleanest, most efficient supercritical coal-fired power facilities in North America and is a model for the next generation of solid-fuel generating plants. Burns & McDonnell served as engineer of record for KCP&L during all phases of construction for the $2 billion project.

Biorefinery developer ZeaChem Inc. hired Burns & McDonnell to provide engineering design, procurement and construction management services for its new facility in Boardman, Ore. The demonstration-scale biorefinery has a capacity of 250,000 gallons per year, using a patented process that produces advanced ethanol, fuels and chemicals from a variety of non-food cellulosic feedstocks.

The Iatan 2 and ZeaChem projects won an Engineering Excellence National Recognition Award and Engineering Excellence Awards in Missouri. In addition, Missouri ACEC awarded Harrington & Cortelyou, a Burns & McDonnell company, the Engineering Excellence Honor Award for the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River in Omaha, Neb.
