Today, They Build Robots; Tomorrow, They Build Careers
Each year, Burns & McDonnell teams up with students from one of our local high schools to build wicked robots and career opportunities.
Through the FIRST Robotics Competition, students inhabit the worlds of engineering, math and science through an intense battle of the ‘bots.
Our professional engineers have six weeks to work with their student team to craft a robot from a standard kit of parts and according to a common set of competition rules, which vary each year. Together, the team tries to build a robot that can withstand the brutal might of nearly 1,000 other robots and the 24,000 creative high school minds who engineered them.
Burns & McDonnell supplies the engineering expertise and covers competition fees and travel expenses for our students teams — but the benefits go well beyond the competition floor.
While They're Building Robots, We're Creating the Next Generation of Engineers.
Through FIRST Robotics, students gain invaluable hands-on experience in problem solving, team building and creative thinking. Studies have shown that students who participate in the program are more likely to major in engineering, go on to graduate school and pursue careers in science, technology and engineering.
