KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Hydrocarbon Processing has named Andrew Becker, a chemical engineer at Burns & McDonnell, as the industry’s “Most Promising Engineer” for 2020.
Becker was honored this month during the magazine’s annual awards program, which celebrates innovators and their innovations and drew nominations from more than a dozen countries.
“Andrew is integral to the team and to the company, successfully leading our most complex projects and making our clients successful,” says Bob Reymond, president and leader of the Oil, Gas & Chemical Group at Burns & McDonnell. “This award is well-deserved and a testament to the commitment and dedication Andrew displays in his work every day.”
For a recent natural gas liquids fractionation project, Becker’s application of dividing-wall column technology led a midstream company’s project to decrease capital costs for fractionators by 10%. Additionally, fuel and electrical expenditures were reduced by up to 20% thanks to optimized process design that has been validated since the initial operation in 2019.
“Andrew is a problem-solver at heart,” says Ryan Spangler, vice president of process in the Oil, Gas & Chemical Group at Burns & McDonnell. “He perceives challenges of the hydrocarbon world as opportunities to find solutions that push the team and the industry forward based on the fundamentals of process technology.”
Becker has worked with the Oil, Gas & Chemical Group at Burns & McDonnell for over 13 years, tackling everything from refining and chemicals to renewable fuels.
