CALGARY, Alberta (March 8, 2018) — Ahsan Upal, a leader for Burns & McDonnell Canada, has been selected to serve on the Executive Committee for IEEE Canada, the Canadian arm of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Upal joined the committee in January, upon his appointment as chair of IEEE Canada’s Industry Committee. In this leadership role he works to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, through programs, conferences and other resources designed to advance a variety of industries, from consumer electronics to smart grids, robotics, life sciences, cloud computing and more.
As chair of the Industry Committee, Ahsan plans to bring representatives from industry, academia and government organizations together at a national level to spark innovation, grow industry and share knowledge. He aims to facilitate Canadian industry participation in IEEE activities, boost dialog between industry and the public, and see that IEEE efforts help generate powerful advancements through opportune connections and collaborations.
IEEE Canada, with 18,000 members, is the largest technical professional organization in Canada.
“I look forward to working with industrial companies, utilities and municipalities throughout Canada in the upcoming year to advance the use of electronic technology in a variety of applications,” says Upal, who started his one-year term in January, which can be extended to serve up to three successive terms.
Upal has more than 17 years of experience as an engineer in Canada and United States, working on projects and programs in electrical transmission and distribution, pipelines and telecom for engineering consultants and utilities. At Burns & McDonnell Canada, he works with current and prospective clients from coast to coast, from main offices in Calgary and Toronto and project offices in Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
“Ahsan is always looking for ways to help his clients and colleagues advance not only their projects, but also their industries,” says Mike Brown, president of Burns & McDonnell International. “We’re proud that his dedication and his experience will be working for the benefit of IEEE Canada, its members and the industries that rely on them.”
