Burns & McDonnell Celebrates Over a Decade of Excellence in the Pacific Region

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering, architecture and construction firm, celebrated its 10-year anniversary in the Pacific region. The 125-year-old company commemorated its achievements and ongoing commitment to community and clients with a traditional Hawaiian blessing and reception at its Honolulu office in the Pacific Guardian Center.

Burns & McDonnell leaders were joined in celebration by colleagues, clients and partners. Speakers reflected on the many achievements of the Pacific team during the past 10 years, the impact made by providing high-quality employment opportunities for local engineers and architects as well as the impact the office has had supporting the community. Since opening its doors in Honolulu in 2013, the Pacific office has grown from a team of two to more than 25 employee-owners, providing a comprehensive range of planning, design, construction, fabrication, environmental remediation and commissioning services for federal, military, utility, commercial and aviation clients across Hawaii and throughout the Pacific.

“Our presence in the Pacific has been marked by a strong commitment to serving our clients with a team filled with local engineers and architects,” says Tony Paresa, Pacific operations manager. “Over the past decade, we have successfully designed and executed more than 240 projects across Hawaii, Guam, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.”

“We are extremely proud of our strategic growth and achievements in the Pacific region,” says Joel DeBoer, president of the Aviation & Federal Group at Burns & McDonnell. “Our Pacific team’s dedication to client success has led to our office success and ability to deliver an ever increasing number of projects locally and internationally. It is wonderful to celebrate this milestone in our journey to continue building a world-class team to serve Hawaii and the Pacific.”

Burns & McDonnell has been recognized as one of the Best Workplaces in Hawaii by Pacific Business News for the last five years. “We place a strong emphasis on building a local team and hiring a diverse mix of local talent to support the critical infrastructure projects we deliver for our clients,” Paresa says. “Looking ahead, we are excited to continue our expansion, adding jobs in Hawaii — with offices in Honolulu and Hilo — and continue our successful recruitment from the University of Hawaii.”
