AKRON, Ohio — Officials from the City of Akron and Summit County joined Burns & McDonnell leadership and employee-owners at a ribbon-cutting and open house to celebrate the opening of their office in Akron. Opened originally during the pandemic in late 2020, the Akron office is now well established, with over 50 employee-owners serving a diverse array of clients and an additional 100 employee-owners that support FirstEnergy, an investor-owned electric utility based in Akron.

County Executive Ilene Shapiro proclaimed Sept. 28, 2022, as "Burns & McDonnell Day," and Akron Mayor Daniel Horrigan welcomed the office and the promise it offers to the city and region.

“Having a strong employee-owned firm like Burns & McDonnell here in Akron is a tremendous addition to our community,” Akron Mayor Daniel Horrigan said. “They are bringing strong jobs to the City of Akron and all of northeast Ohio through their critical work in design, engineering and construction.”

The Burns & McDonnell professionals in Akron offer clients a full range of consulting, engineering, architecture and construction services. They focus on utilities, developers and large-campus clients that need support with electric and gas transmission and distribution, power generation and storage, renewables, pipelines, environmental services and construction. Water, wastewater, manufacturing and industrial services are also crucial to the group’s rapidly expanding project mix.

The 13,000-square-foot office on White Pond Drive is the second Ohio office for Burns & McDonnell, bringing the total number of employees to over 200 in the state. The firm is continuing to expand in Ohio with multiple job openings in Akron and Columbus.
