LOS ANGELES — Burns & McDonnell has been selected to provide environmental compliance and sustainability support services for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
“We’re honored to assist Metro in implementing environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions as it connects thousands of passengers daily to destinations throughout the region,” says Renita Mollman, vice president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell offices in California. “Whether it’s for a new rail route or bus station, we are excited to support Metro’s efforts to transport passengers safely while being good stewards of the environment.”
Burns & McDonnell will provide environmental services for Metro’s ongoing transportation operations and will support capital projects to minimize environmental impacts from the design, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities and operations. The projects will be funded under the voter approved passage of Metro’s Measure M and Measure R — local sales tax allocated to fund projects to alleviate traffic congestion, decrease air pollutants and create jobs — as well as other funded construction projects.
The firm will provide support in developing sustainable infrastructure solutions, including:
- Project management and project controls.
- Hazardous waste, stormwater, air quality and GIS consulting.
- Civil, environmental and transportation engineering.
- Environmental construction, design, planning and analysis support.
“Our customers, community members and the region’s economic prosperity are at the forefront of our endeavors as we strive to improve mobility in Los Angeles County,” says Cris B. Liban, environment and sustainability executive officer for Metro. “Through contracts and support such as those offered through this contract, we are able to advance the environmental, social and financial goals of our agency especially to those who are most vulnerable.”
Metro serves as the transportation planner, coordinator, operator, designer and builder for Los Angeles and its surrounding communities. More than 9.6 million people — nearly one third of the state’s population — live and work in Metro’s 1,433-square-mile service area.
Last year, the firm announced it was selected to develop a road map for an all-electric vehicle fleet infrastructure system and in-depot charging station for Foothill Transit, allowing the environmentally friendly transit agency to convert to a 100 percent all-electric bus fleet by 2030.
With more than 50 offices across the country, Burns & McDonnell has more than 220 full-time employees in Los Angeles, Brea, San Diego and San Francisco, California. The firm has supported similar services for companies like Metrolink, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric.
