WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 20, 2016) — With plans to double in size within the next year, Burns & McDonnell has relocated its Fulton, Maryland, office to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to accommodate expansion. The 100 percent employee-owned engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting firm opened its first Mid-Atlantic location in Chesapeake, Virginia, in 2010. Since then, the team has grown from two employee-owners to more than 70.

“At Burns & McDonnell, we are committed to our clients and offering the best, sustainable solutions to their complex engineering, architectural and construction challenges,” says Paul Fischer, president and regional office group manager. “By growing our presence in the region, we will be able expand our service offerings and provide additional resources to our clients.”

The Washington, D.C., office is one of four locations comprising Burns & McDonnell’s Mid-Atlantic regional team and supports clients in a variety of sectors including aviation, government, military, utilities, manufacturing, healthcare and higher education. The firm recently hired Jonathan Vaughn to lead the new location.

“Jon has tremendous experience leading multidiscipline, high-performing teams and understands the unique requirements of federal military contracting,” says Jeffrey Ganthner, principal and general manager of the Mid-Atlantic regional offices. “He is the perfect person to lead the Burns & McDonnell team in our nation’s capital.”

As the Virginia Business Journal’s No. 1 Large Employer Best Place to Work in Virginia, Ganthner says their commitment to hiring and retaining top talent remains constant in all offices. Burns & McDonnell also currently ranks No. 16 among Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For and has been recognized by nearly 30 publications as a best place to work across the country.

“We wanted our new space in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to be reflective of our best place to work culture and include amenities and benefits that would enhance our employee-owners’ and clients’ experience,” says Ganthner. “The office offers an increased number of collaboration spaces and new technology and is located in a dynamic area with great neighbors.”

The Mid-Atlantic regional team has managed more than 300 projects since 2010 with various federal agencies in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area including the Architect of the Capitol, National Guard Bureau and NAVFAC.
