KANSAS CITY, Missouri (August 1, 2017) – Kansas City Royals Hall of Famer George Brett has endorsed the Burns & McDonnell KCI HOMETOWN Team in its drive to win City approval of a plan to design, build and privately finance a new single-terminal KCI. The endorsement will be aired in a series of radio and television commercials that begin airing this week on several Kansas City broadcast and cable TV outlets, including during Royals games airing on Fox Sports Midwest.
“Our city is on a roll from downtown revitalization to the Kauffman Center to champions of the world,” says George Brett, Kansas City Royals Hall of Famer. “Now we need a new terminal at KCI, which is both a new challenge and a historic opportunity. We need it to reach other cities, to connect with distant parts of the world and to create jobs here in Kansas City. We need it to welcome others to this great place and showcase our world class community.”
“Kansas City is now considering a privately financed new terminal,” Brett continues. “That decision will soon be made about who builds it. I always support our hometown team. That is Burns & McDonnell. They have assembled an all-star, blue-ribbon coalition of designers and construction firms, nearly all based in Kansas City. I think we should all support our KCI hometown team. It is a matter of KC pride.”
“This process has always been about KC pride,” said Burns & McDonnell Chairman and CEO Ray Kowalik. “And who can speak to that better than George Brett? We are thrilled that George is lending his support to the more than 30 local firms and thousands of Kansas Citians who are ready to get started building a new airport we can all be proud of.”
Brett joins a large and growing list of individuals and organizations who are endorsing the KCI HOMETOWN Team in its drive for a new airport. In addition to endorsing the only locally-based team bidding on the KCI project, the commercials mark the launch of an informational campaign intended to educate Kansas Citians about the team’s single-terminal concept and private financing plan that presents no risk to taxpayers.
In addition to Burns & McDonnell, the growing KCI HOMETOWN team includes: Americo; JE Dunn; McCownGordon; HOK; Populous; BNIM; Wellner Architects; Garcia Architecture; Mark One Electric Company, Inc.; MMC Contractors; U.S. Engineering; Capital Electric Construction Company, Inc.;
