(Nov. 17, 2016) Iberdrola has awarded purchases of 10,500 million euros to more than 20,000 suppliers worldwide in 2016.

• Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has been awarded the 2016 Best Supplier of the Year Award by Iberdrola, as part of an event in which other 18 companies have also been recognized
• Ignacio Galán, Chairman of the Group, stressed that suppliers continue to play “a critical role in consolidating Iberdrola as the energy company of the future that the new world order demands” 
• With these awards and through the business management of its suppliers, the company reiterates its commitment to encourage sustainable development, quality, innovation, corporate social responsibility, diversity and equality, job creation and occupational risk prevention

Today Iberdrola presented the 2016 Supplier of the Year Awards. Through the business management of its suppliers these awards aim to encourage and recognize sustainable development, quality, innovation, corporate social responsibility, diversity and equality, job creation and occupational risk prevention.

The event took place this morning in the auditorium of the new Iberdrola Campus of San Agustin de Guadalix (Madrid) and represents the first external event in the newly opened company training facilities. It was attended by more than 300 guests, including representatives from more than 120 Iberdrola suppliers from different countries and industry sectors. Along with many other Iberdrola managers, the event was attended by its Chairman, Ignacio Galán, Business Group CEO, Francisco Martinez Córcoles, and Purchasing and Insurance Director, Asís Canales. 

During his speech, Galán stressed that since these awards began 15 years ago, a period that coincides with the company's international expansion, more than 200 companies have been recognized for their contribution to maintain a “constant commitment to quality, innovation, respect for the environment, safety and health at work, equality and diversity, and job creation.” 

In addition, he underlined that suppliers will continue to play a critical role in consolidating Iberdrola as “the energy company of the future that the new world order demands.” “We are immersed in an energy transition towards a more sustainable model that requires more clean energy, more storage capacity, more and smarter networks, and increased digitization; solutions that Iberdrola has already been providing in recent years and through which we have anticipated the industry trends”, noted Ignacio Galán, who also reiterated the company's strong commitment to the fight against climate change.

A Cornerstone for Investment Plan Development

The Iberdrola chairman indicated that suppliers are essential for implementing the 24,000 million euro plus investment plan envisaged by the company for up to 2020, “primarily in electrical transmission and distribution networks, regulated generation - basically combined and storage cycles, and renewable energy, with a strong commitment to offshore wind generation,” bringing new products and services for customers, “betting on automation and digitization to improve efficiency and quality.”

Iberdrola expects to close the year with an awarded purchase volume in excess of 10,500 million euros, 30% higher than during the previous year, across more than 20,000 suppliers worldwide.

Some of the most relevant awards the company is currently promoting correspond to first-line energy projects, such as the East Anglia One offshore wind farm (UK), the Alto Támega hydroelectric complex (Portugal), the Mexican Topolobampo II and Escobedo (Mexico) combined cycles and the El Cabo, Tule and Twin Buttes US onshore wind farms.

Award-Winning and Finalist Companies

The Iberdrola Supplier of the Year 2016 Awards consist of 10 categories: Best Supplier, Best Equipment Supplier, Best Energy Service Provider, Best Service Provider outside Energy, Service Quality and Response, Health and Safety, Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility, Competitiveness and Innovation; and Diversity and Equality. 

The winner of the Best Equipment Supplier was Navantia-Astilleros FENE y Puerto Real — with ABB the runner-up. In the Best Energy Services Supplier category, U.S. company Burns & McDonnell received the award, with UK company Northstone Ltd. the runner-up.

In addition, Allianz won the award in the Best Service Provider outside Energy category, for which Accenture was also a finalist. The Service Quality and Response award was won by SPIE ENS, from Great Britain, with the other finalist being Brazilian I.T.B. Equipamentos Eléctricos, Ltda. 

The prize for Health and Safety was awarded to American company Black and Veatch, with Basque company EDS Ingeniería y Montajes S.A. a finalist in this category. INECOL from Mexico was the winner of the Environment segment, in which Biscay company Ingeteam was a finalist.

The CSR prize was won by Romagnole Productos Eléctricosfrom Brazil, with American company Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. the runner up. Competitiveness and Innovation was won by British company Lithium, where Mexican company Boyle Energy Services & Technology, Inc. was the other finalist.

ILUNION Facility Services, based in the Spanish capital of Madrid, won the Diversity and Equality category award, in which Thomasson from America was a finalist. 

Finally, the prize for Best Supplier of the Year has been awarded to Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, with the world's most modern intensive use gas and steam turbine plant.
