MINNEAPOLIS — Burns & McDonnell has been selected to provide comprehensive fire protection services nationwide for National Guard Bureau (NGB) facilities. The 100% employee-owned engineering, architecture and construction firm will provide architecture and engineering (A-E) services through an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract.

Services provided under the contract will include fire protection system evaluation, building and fire code analysis, design, post-construction award services, and testing. Burns & McDonnell fire protection team members will conduct activities on-site at NGB facilities and provide specific recommendations on improvements to life safety and fire protection systems based on rigorous analysis, testing and review.

“We are excited to continue supporting the National Guard Bureau with our integrated in-house team of fire protection professionals,” says Tony Schoenecker, fire protection director for Burns & McDonnell. “Our employee-owners will be able to bring the firm’s extensive engineering and design resources to deliver cost-effective life safety and fire protection solutions.”

Since 2012, the fire protection team has performed services for more than 270 NGB facilities at 80 NGB locations, including a nationwide NGB fire protection program where the firm successfully evaluated 258 aircraft hangar facilities at 76 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve locations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

“We have built a fire protection team nationwide that aligns with the needs of the National Guard Bureau and other federal agencies,” says Mark Rivers, regional manager for the firm’s Aviation & Federal Group in Minneapolis. “Our team is uniquely qualified for this contract, with industry-leading knowledge in Department of Defense fire protection design criteria and the capability to provide comprehensive fire protection services for a wide range of facilities, project stakeholders and geographic locales.”

Offering fire protection–focused engineering services since 2007, the growing group of 80 dedicated fire protection professionals at Burns & McDonnell has completed over 1,700 fire protection projects, working over 310,000 safe hours. Burns & McDonnell ranks No. 2 on Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s listing of the nation’s top mechanical, electrical, plumbing or fire protection (MEP) firms, offering a holistic and comprehensive approach to fire protection, including fire suppression, fire alarms, hazardous materials, building codes and life safety.
