KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Burns & McDonnell is proud to announce its partnership in the Plains CO₂ Reduction (PCOR) Partnership Initiative, led by the University of North Dakota Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC).

The focus on carbon management and reducing carbon emissions only continues to grow across the industries and customers we serve,” says Steve Nalefski, senior vice president of the Environmental Services Group at Burns & McDonnell. “Joining PCOR allows us to collaborate directly with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the EERC and other leaders in the CCUS industry to develop and implement carbon management strategies for our clients, focusing on evaluating, designing and building CCUS projects.”

Burns & McDonnell is assisting power generation, chemicals, oil and gas refiners, and other industrial carbon dioxide (CO₂) producers as they explore carbon capture as a way to meet carbon reduction goals. Burns & McDonnell is actively involved in studying, permitting, engineering and estimating on carbon capture and storage initiatives for our customers across the globe.

PCOR Partnership members focus on making safe, practical CCUS projects a reality. It is one of four regional carbon sequestration partnerships that are funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy. Currently, the PCOR Partnership covers a region that includes 10 states across the middle of the country (Alaska, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming) and four Canadian provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan).

The PCOR Partnership has over 200 public and private sector stakeholders. PCOR members work collaboratively to assess opportunities for carbon storage and work to resolve technical, regulatory and environmental barriers to storing CO₂. Members of the group share data, guidance and practical experience. The PCOR Partnership and its members have also worked with policymakers and the public to help them better understand the opportunities, strategies, challenges and benefits of carbon management.
