COLUMBIA, Missouri — Further enhancing its world-class patient care experience, University of Missouri Health Care (MU Health Care) has selected Burns & McDonnell to plan and design the new, consolidated women’s and children’s hospital on its main hospital campus. The addition will make the campus a centralized hub, improving operational efficiencies, bringing together critical services for women and children, and featuring state-of-the-art amenities and technology.

“We are excited to begin one of the largest building projects in our history to create an integrated healthcare campus that will bring together medical professionals across specialties, while providing a seamless, high-quality experience for patients,” says Jonathan Curtright, chief executive officer of MU Health Care.

Burns & McDonnell, in partnership with HKS, one of the leading healthcare architecture firms in the U.S., will deliver the design of the new 323,400-square-foot facility. The integration plans include a new hospital pavilion on the central campus to increase MU Health Care’s clinical footprint and create the additional bed capacity the women’s and children’s hospital will require. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2024.

“We’re proud to be a part of this transformative time in MU Health Care’s history,” says Doug Roeder, healthcare practice leader at Burns & McDonnell. “Our fully integrated team is dedicated to supporting the healthcare system’s goal of bringing together clinical care, education and research to deliver renowned care for patients.”

Burns & McDonnell is currently leading the planning and design of the University of Missouri System’s NextGen Precision Health facility, which will focus on advancing research in precision medicine. When it opens along Hospital Drive in Columbia, Missouri, the facility will aim to bring together engineering, medicine and veterinary science students, as well as the federal government, to pursue a collaborative approach to personalized healthcare.
