MORRISTOWN, New Jersey — U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) visited the Morristown, New Jersey, office of Burns & McDonnell, an engineering, architecture and construction firm, on Aug. 22 to meet with regional leadership and lead a town hall with employees of the Morristown office. During the visit, Rep. Sherrill learned about the firm’s commitment to continued local, high-paying job creation, employee-ownership structure and role in the clean energy transition in New Jersey and across the United States.

As projects vital to New Jersey’s future continue to develop, Burns & McDonnell plans to grow by 15% each year in the region, creating new career opportunities to meet demand.

Rep. Sherrill learned about the firm’s role as engineer of record for the design of Delta Air Lines’ $4 billion dollar upgrades at LaGuardia Airport, with 80% of the Morristown office working on the redevelopment of the critical airport infrastructure. Burns & McDonnell leaders also shared information on the firm’s involvement in Ocean Wind 1, New Jersey’s first offshore wind project, which is being developed by Ørsted in partnership with PSEG. The firm will perform the engineering, procurement and construction of the onshore facilities needed to interconnect the wind farm into the electric grid. This project will be led out of the Morristown office and will include support from local union contractors.

During the town hall, Rep. Sherrill addressed all employees of the Morristown office. She spoke about her local initiatives for Morris County, the state’s decarbonization plans and her thoughts on the importance of workforce development.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the employees at the Burns & McDonnell facility in Morristown, learn more about their critical role in New Jersey’s clean energy transition and speak about the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act,” said Rep. Sherrill. “NJ-11 continues to lead in the innovation economy and the growing clean energy industry with local businesses like Burns & McDonnell. As a member of the Science, Space and Technology committee, I am committed to making investments in solar, wind, and other clean energy sources to spur innovation in our economy and create millions of new jobs.”

“Our company’s investment in the state of New Jersey is one we are proud of. Whether it be our work in the burgeoning offshore wind industry or making the necessary updates to critical infrastructure, our Morristown office is honored to carry out projects that create local, high-paying jobs,” said Jason Cabral, vice president for the Northeast offices of Burns & McDonnell. “We are thrilled to be a part of New Jersey’s drive to attain clean, sustainable energy.”
