Burns & McDonnell Named Number 2 Top Workplace Among Medium-Sized Companies in Greater St. Louis
06/27/2016 2 minute read

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (June 27, 2016) — Burns & McDonnell has placed second among medium sized businesses in The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ranking of 2016 Top Workplaces. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including Alignment, Execution, and Connection, just to name a few.

“The St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Top Workplaces ranking means a lot to us because it’s an independent validation of the type of working environment we try to create for our employees,” said Breck Washam, PE, vice president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell’s St. Louis office. “We are an employee-owned company which means we pay attention to what it takes for our employees to build a career at Burns & McDonnell. We compete against many great engineering firms so having experienced, long-term employee owners who are satisfied being here is a real competitive advantage.”

In addition to its ranking, Burns & McDonnell won special recognition by earning the Post-Dispatch’s Direction Award for scoring highest among all peers on the question: “I believe this company is going in the right direction.”

“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest. And oftentimes, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits.” says Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. “But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees. Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together. Claffey adds, “Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace.”
