Kane has specialized in program management for several T&D mega-projects comprising multiple phases of siting, permitting, design, procurement, construction and commissioning. He has been responsible for all aspects of successful project management and has implemented innovative project controls resulting in improved project execution. In addition, Kane has served as a consultant for major California utilities in developing proposals for competitive transmission projects awarded by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO). Kane also has successfully managed projects in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and brewing industries.

“Stephen brings a highly organized and detailed approach to managing some of the most complex projects Burns & McDonnell has ever taken on,” said Renita Mollman, vice president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell’s California operations. “His focus on project controls has elevated Burns & McDonnell processes in many areas. But perhaps more important has been his skill in assembling and developing talented teams of people and then plugging them into areas where their skills can shine.”

Kane joined Burns & McDonnell in 2010 as a project director on a multibillion-dollar transmission project to connect renewable resource areas with load centers in Southern California. Before joining Burns & McDonnell, he served as project director for several major transmission system improvement projects for AltaLink in Alberta, Canada. He is a native of Scotland and received his bachelor’s degree in energy engineering from Napier University in the United Kingdom.
