Burns & McDonnell Maintains Key No. 1 Spots and Strong Standing in ENR 2022 Sourcebook Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Continued support of critical infrastructure and strong economic growth helped Burns & McDonnell achieve a strong standing in the 2022 Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine annual rankings of consulting engineering services.

The 100% employee-owned, engineering, construction and architecture firm maintained its No. 1 ranking in the Power and Transmission & Distribution categories for the seventh consecutive year. In total, Burns & McDonnell ranked in the top 10 in 20 of this year’s ENR Top Design Firms Sourcebook sectors, including No. 2 in Telecommunications, No. 3 in Data Centers, No. 4 in Wind and No. 6 in Solar.

“The development of critical infrastructure has been a primary business of Burns & McDonnell for more than 120 years,” says Ray Kowalik, chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. “While infrastructure needs continually evolve, we are seeing incredible growth from three key areas: the push toward decarbonization, logistics and supply chain alterations; and the transformation to the digital world.”

The Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) touches most of markets served by Burns & McDonnell, adding even more to the firm’s growth. Kowalik said the IIJA provides a framework for the firm’s industries to continue to boom.

Burns & McDonnell ranks No. 8 overall among ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms, announced in April. Based on engineering and architectural design revenue earned in the prior fiscal year, the annual survey of the 500 largest U.S.-based design firms serves as a preview of the publication’s comprehensive sourcebook rankings.

In construction rankings released by ENR earlier this year, Burns & McDonnell is No. 6 among Design-Build firms and No. 13 among Program Management firms.
