New Water Treatment Plant in Tishomingo Enhances Reliability, Capacity and Quality

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma — A new water treatment plant is up and running in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, with completion of the project designed by Burns & McDonnell beginning a new era of delivering clean water 24/7 to the community.

The previous water treatment plant had served the City of Tishomingo for many decades, but after exceeding its useful life, the plant was plagued with redundancy, capacity and regulatory issues.

The City of Tishomingo, the Chickasaw Nation, Burns & McDonnell and other community stakeholders worked together to develop a plan for a new water treatment plant at the existing plant site. The new plant modernizes plant operations and provides additional capacity for community growth, while also improving water quality, system reliability and employee work conditions.

“This transformative project prepares our city for future growth by increasing treatment capacity. The plant provides modern technology to treat water more efficiently, decreasing costs associated with an outdated plant,” says Laura Wood, mayor of the City of Tishomingo. “We are proud to make this investment for our community and its residents.”

The design team worked creatively to keep costs low while delivering a water plant that will serve the community for decades to come. The project was funded jointly by contributions from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, the City of Tishomingo and the Chickasaw Nation.

“At Burns & McDonnell, we are passionate about projects that enhance the livability and workability of a city,” says Rachel Drain, project manager at Burns & McDonnell. “We take great pride in contributing to initiatives like this that make communities like Tishomingo more vibrant, sustainable and enjoyable for everyone.”
