KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Sept. 13, 2016) — Burns & McDonnell has moved up to No. 3 on Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE) magazine’s 2016 MEP Giants ranking of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering firms. The top 100 engineering firms distinguished by this award are recognized in the August 2016 issue of CSE. 

Burns & McDonnell reported $215.6 million in revenue from mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services in the 2016 survey, up from $194.8 million the prior year. Revenue reported on the 2016 MEP ranking was earned during fiscal 2015. Burns & McDonnell ranked fourth in the 2015 MEP Giants survey. 

According to CSE, Burns & McDonnell also ranked third among the MEP Giants firms in a ranking of overall revenue for fiscal 2015. MEP revenue was 8 percent of Burns & McDonnell’s $2.6 billion in total revenue for 2015.

Much of Burns & McDonnell’s MEP project work reflects continued demand for consulting engineering, architectural design and commercial construction services for large, complex manufacturing, aerospace, higher education, military, civilian government, healthcare and commercial office facilities. 

“Our clients are looking for more value-driven design and construction services and that requires a tightly integrated team of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection professionals,” said Mike Fenske, senior vice president of the Global Facilities Group at Burns & McDonnell. “MEP engineering services are increasingly important to meeting project owners’ demands for extremely fast schedules and fixed budgets for facilities with very low operations and maintenance costs.” 

According to CSE, the firms ranked as 2016 MEP Giants generated approximately $47.4 billion in gross annual revenue during the previous fiscal year, a $5.5 billion increase from the prior year.
