Burns & McDonnell Launches Environmental Services to Enhance UK Service Offering
06/07/2023 3 minute read

BIRMINGHAM, England — Global engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell has launched an Environmental Services (ENS) Group in the U.K. as it widens the range of services available in the country. The ENS team will help clients solve problems and mitigate risks around environmental planning and consents, assessment, design and construction. The group will also provide advice on land remediation, environmental compliance, sustainability and carbon management, waste management, climate change adaptation, and stakeholder engagement. Its focus will be on reducing the impact of infrastructure projects to improve outcomes for clients, the environment and local communities.

The new group will support work being undertaken by the U.K. Transmission & Distribution, Mission Critical and 1898 & Co. teams, and has already started work on a number of substation developments in England and is soon to start working on its first substation development in Scotland. ENS services will be available at all points in the Burns & McDonnell engineer-procure-construct (EPC) process, feeding into optioneering, feasibility, statutory processes and concept through detailed design and construction, as well as providing solutions to minimise carbon emissions under greenhouse gas protocols.

As the ENS group expands it will look to service new clients, advising on environment, sustainability and social impacts of projects throughout their entire life cycle in the land development, transport and water infrastructure sectors.

Steven Morgan has been appointed as director of environmental services, U.K. & Europe, to lead the new ENS team and drive its growth in the U.K. Morgan has extensive experience of the sector, beginning his career as a landscape architect and running various environmental practices at engineering firms across the U.K. His more recent roles have focused on business development and change management, positioning teams to achieve successful project outcomes for their clients.

The ENS U.K. team will also have access to and be supported by the global network of Burns & McDonnell specialists in environmental services, including over 550 credentialed professionals in the U.S.

Steven Morgan, Director for Environmental Services at Burns & McDonnell UK, said:

“I’m excited to be leading the ENS practice at Burns & McDonnell, and to be joining an ambitious and fast-growing company. Environmental and sustainability issues are receiving a great deal of attention, and as the U.K. updates and expands its infrastructure, Burns & McDonnell will play a key role in ensuring that our clients’ projects have a positive effect on the local environment and communities. I am looking forward to working with our clients to help them promote sustainability over the long term and reduce the impact of the infrastructure needed to get to net zero.

“My extensive experience of helping clients with these issues will be supported by the significant international experience of Burns & McDonnell, and I am excited to support the expansion of our new team in a thriving market of infrastructure design and construction.”

Jonathan Chapman, Managing Director at Burns & McDonnell UK, said:

“Steven has fantastic experience in this sector and is the perfect person to continue the expansion of our capabilities in the U.K. It is another exciting moment for our business, as we once again increase the range of services available to our clients, and is indicative of the continuing success of Burns & McDonnell in the U.K.”
