KANSAS CITY, Missouri (May 30, 2017) — Burns & McDonnell welcomes the city’s decision to open the door to a competitive process for a new terminal at KCI. Burns & McDonnell submitted a plan earlier this month to design, build and privately finance a new one-terminal facility at KCI, which it believes is the best solution for Kansas City. Mayor Sly James announced today the city is inviting other firms to submit their qualifications and proposals to build and finance a new KCI.

“Burns & McDonnell is grateful that we’ve helped open the door to both a discussion — and an action plan — for the future of KCI. Our number one priority is that KCI gets a new one-terminal facility,” says Ray Kowalik, chairman and CEO, Burns & McDonnell. “We welcome the city’s decision to invite other proposals, because we want the very best plan for Kansas City. We’re just as confident today that our innovative plan to design, build and privately finance a new one-terminal airport at KCI is a unique Kansas City solution to a Kansas City challenge and will ultimately prove to be the path chosen.”

With experience with more than 350 airports across the globe over the past 75 years, Burns & McDonnell is the third largest aviation consultant in the United States. The 119-year-old Kansas City-based firm was involved in the original KCI that opened in 1972 and led renovation projects at KCI over the years.

The Burns & McDonnell proposal promises convenience, innovation and a commitment to build the new terminal with local union labor utilizing KC-based construction and architectural partners.

“We believe it’s important that a hometown firm — together with the world-class talent right here in Kansas City, works together to design and build OUR airport,” says Kowalik. “Burns & McDonnell is confident the city will agree we provide the right plan — and the right team — to create a new KCI that is the right fit for our great city.”

Burns & McDonnell is a hometown firm that’s been committed to the people and growth of Kansas City for generations.
