We are supporting the development of a direct air capture (DAC) hub in Louisiana. The initiative, called “Project Cypress,” will be a regional facility for the capture and safe and permanent storage of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Our team is providing the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the initial DAC hub capacity. The project owners are seeking Department of Energy (DOE) funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Regional DAC Hubs program.
Among other industry-leading partners, DAC technology provider Climeworks will bring their expertise to this initiative. For their technology, CO2 will be captured in a three-step process. First, air will be drawn into a collector and through a filter to trap CO2 molecules. Then, when the filter is full, the collector closes and increases the temperature to 100 degrees Celsius. This releases the CO2 from the filter. The gas is then pulled out of the collector and will be stored underground by a local geologic storage partner.
The Project Cypress DAC Hub will advance the commercialization of direct air capture and storage (DAC+S), an innovative technology powered by renewable energy that verifiably removes CO2 from the earth’s atmosphere, helping cement the United States as a global leader in DAC+S deployment and provide benefits to the state of Louisiana.
The project will be developed in phases, aiming to pull 1 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere when completely operational.
