Kutak Rock, a law firm based in Omaha, Nebraska, with offices coast to coast, sought a workplace for its Kansas City team that was designed to draw employees together — one that fostered a sense of belonging and connection.
Our team provided workplace programming and strategy, architecture, and construction services, in collaboration with Hufft architecture. Together, we created an environment that aligns with the firm’s professional yet casual, relaxed culture. Construction of the new space will be complete in fall 2024.
Kutak Rock, like many companies, was challenged to entice workers back to the office after the pandemic. We helped create a desirable space that supported a seamless home-to-office transition. The 23,000-square-foot office is divided between floors five and six of an office building in the Crown Center campus in Kansas City.
Inspired by the angle of a page-fold bookmark — a dog ear — the angles in this office space provide transitions between public and private spaces. One such angle welcomes employees and guests as they enter the lobby, which opens to a large community room and work lounge with downtown Kansas City vistas, a coffee bar, an open kitchen and window-box seating. The community room also features a hidden speakeasy, accessible behind a sliding door.
The contrasting space opposite the lobby is private and secure, allowing employees to work in an uninterrupted and deep-focus space surrounded by garden views. A connecting staircase unifies practice groups and teams.
