PROJECT

Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

Our team is providing design and construction services for a wastewater treatment plant expansion for the city of Republic, Missouri, to address aging infrastructure, regulatory compliance and limited capacity. Our integrated design and construction work includes value engineering efforts to minimize cost, optimize design and evaluate equipment.

Since 2019, the city has experienced explosive population growth and increased commercial development. An Amazon Fulfillment Center was opened, and the Convoy of Hope organization moved its world headquarters to the city. As the city grew, so did its need for water and wastewater utility upgrades.

We collaborated with the city throughout its wastewater master plan development to establish the preferred sizing and processes within the facility based on the city’s projected population growth, operational preferences and facility needs.

The wastewater treatment plant expansion will convert an existing 3.2 million-gallons-per-day (MGD) plant into a facility capable of averaging 5 MGD, with a peak flow of 12 MGD. Coupled with a peak wet weather treatment system, the facility will have a peak flow capacity of 16 MGD.

This project involves significant process improvements, including: a new influent pump station; grit removal and fine screening; biological treatment basins with discrete anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic zones; return pumping in the anoxic and aerobic zones; alum feed system for total phosphorus trimming; membrane bioreactors and ancillary equipment; and RAS/WAS pumping.

Our integrated team is carefully coordinating design and construction efforts to support optimal efficiency and value within the entire wastewater program. From collaborative design to procurement of membrane filtration equipment, pumps, clarifiers and balance-of-plant equipment, the team has made significant efforts to remain coordinated to avoid rework and mitigate constructability challenges.
