As airlines and airports seek to reduce their carbon footprint, electrification of equipment, including ground support equipment (eGSE), is increasingly part of the mix. Balancing the challenges of equipment costs and infrastructure demands with reduced emissions and other environmental gains requires a measured approach and a detailed implementation plan.
As the global leader in power infrastructure design and construction, as ranked by Engineering News-Record, we have the experience and tools necessary for integrating electrification technology at airports, as well as connecting those systems to local utility infrastructure. We have the in-house resources to help you roll out a successful eGSE program.
Our team has worked with airports and airlines on infrastructure planning for eGSE, including evaluations of charging infrastructure locations, projected power system loads and adequacy of the local electrical transmission and distribution system, supported by experience in developing transportation electrification infrastructure for personal vehicles and public transportation fleets.
Electrification includes all aspects of airport operations — ranging from airside vehicles to rental car facilities to heating of terminals. Our experience in the design and construction of passenger terminals, aircraft fueling systems, airfield pavements and other airport infrastructure provides a depth of understanding for optimizing your airport electrification operations.
We have supported the design and construction of new eGSE charging infrastructure at airports as well as the replacement of existing systems and development of all necessary related components — including equipment coordination, access roads, security measures, civil/electrical work and aircraft layouts. Our team also can develop phased implementation plans that provide uninterrupted airport ramp operations and an ability to stage investment over time.
