Achieving compliance with air quality rules and regulations is a constant effort. We can work with you to determine whether your plant is compliant with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations including the Clean Air Act’s Good Neighbor Plan, the Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) and the potential effects of the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS).
Meeting current and future emissions targets requires diligence, technological understanding and scientific knowledge. We help power utilities plan, design and complete air quality control system projects, including studies, permitting support, system evaluations, process design, equipment specifications, construction management, startup, testing and troubleshooting.
Our decarbonization team can help you explore adding carbon capture or hydrogen to your plant, evaluating technology selection, implementation processes and the effects on operations.
Flue gas desulfurization (FGD): Decades of FGD design, system studies and retrofits have made us a worldwide leader in the field. Our familiarity with key FGD suppliers and processes leads to efficient and economical operations for your existing FGD system. Detailed system evaluations can lead to recommendations to improve removal efficiency, reduce reagent cost and improve operating and maintenance.
Mercury (Hg): We are familiar with system evaluation and design for mercury control technologies (activated carbon injection (ACI), fuel additives, re-emission chemicals/controls), along with co-benefits for various technologies, and evaluation and procurement of mercury continuous emission monitoring (CEM) systems and sorbent traps.
Nitrogen oxide (NOx): NOx emissions have become a significant focus across the utility industry. We have experience with both combustion and post-combustion NOx reduction technologies, including low-NOx burners, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) and hybrid systems. We have performed more than 200 NOx reduction and combustion optimization projects. Our staff develops and implements client solutions to combustion side problems on any type of boiler.
Particulate matter (PM) control: We have extensive experience with precipitators and baghouses, precipitator upgrades and conversions, and precipitator performance evaluations.
