Many power plants, especially coal- and gas-fired and nuclear, are operating beyond their intended design life. Evaluations and upgrades are critical steps to maximize your return on investment in these plants, keeping them compliant, competitive, efficient and reliable.
The power industry is also seeing a drain on talented, experienced engineers as the longtime managers of these plants retire. Owners face project backlogs, inaccurate cost estimates and unreliable forecasts. Our project managers and engineers can define project scope, budget and schedule for single projects or plant upgrade programs designed to increase reliability, improve performance, increase safety, reduce operating costs and provide key operational data for meeting industry standards.
We evaluate and implement plant improvement projects, completing projects at numerous coal, gas and hydroelectric plants in the past five years. As an integrated engineer-procure-construct (EPC) firm, we can execute these projects in a turnkey fashion, enabling greater flexibility and increased cost certainty. Our nuclear power team has evaluated plant operations and completed design projects to improve operations, including pump replacements, intake structure evaluations, ventilation system improvements, and storage tank, rotor and fan replacements.
As conventional power generation is removed from the grid, so is the inertia provided by its rotating turbines. Synchronous condensers (syncons) can generate inertia and help stabilize the power grid as new generation is built out. Our team can help evaluate and integrate syncon systems to meet your generation needs.
