Older generation plants are running into the obstacles of outdated equipment and harder-to-find parts for those still functioning. Technological advances have created an array of more efficient options.
Your control system and field device retrofit and assessment projects are as unique as your facilities, so you need a flexible, tailored approach. Whether you are looking for a conceptual or budgetary study, a complete control system retrofit, a PLC upgrade/migration, or a single instrument evaluation, our Instrumentation & Control Group will collaborate with you to get it done.
Balancing the Future Grid
As more intermittent generation sources come onto the grid, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are increasingly needed to correct the swings in power output and the deviations in power phase and frequency. Efficient control systems are critical in accommodating two-way power flow and other dynamic conditions.
When multiple control systems are used to govern connected resources — one for a solar array, another for the BESS, a third for overall control — conflicts inevitably arise. A unified approach to controls can achieve maximum efficiency in responding to these variable demands.
Our team is experienced with the stringent requirements for controls that regulate bulk power dispatch to the grid, where control systems must respond within milliseconds to unpredictable events. Your control system is the key to compliance with NERC critical infrastructure protection (CIP) regulations.
Effective Control Systems Implementation
Our experienced team works throughout the country to provide the engineering support you need to get back online, getting you through challenging checkouts/startups. Our integrated engineer-procure-construct (EPC) approach can deliver these projects with a focus on your success, providing greater flexibility and increased cost certainly along the way.
We’re passionate about keeping up with the latest instrument technology and installation methods. Because our instrument engineers work on everything from greenfield sites and plantwide instrument retrofits to single instrument replacements, they understand what works and what doesn’t in each application.
