Overhead transmission forms much of the backbone of safe, reliable and affordable electric power. Maintaining and expanding that critical infrastructure to meet the shifting demands of today and tomorrow requires creativity and innovation.
Why Overhead Transmission Is More Important Than Ever
The demand for reliable and sustainable electricity continues to grow. The integration of renewable energy sources, often located in remote areas, relies on overhead transmission lines to transport power to population centers. These connections are critical to allow the grid to handle diverse energy sources, enhance resilience, and meet the increasing energy demands driven by electrification and economic changes.
As the world transitions to cleaner energy and strives for net-zero goals, overhead transmission will continue to serve as the backbone of a resilient and adaptable energy infrastructure, maintaining reliable power delivery and supporting the global energy transition.
The Burns & McDonnell Advantage
Our clients have trusted us to deliver their overhead transmission projects for decades. We have supported thousands of projects from coast to coast — traversing everything from deserts to mountains to crowded urban streets — at voltage levels from 34.5-kV up to 765-kV. The talent and experience we have collected is second to none, and we leverage that experience to find optimal solutions for each project.
Our team includes industry leaders from across the disciplines required to execute transmission projects successfully. We offer end-to-end experience and knowledge in planning, engineering, routing and siting, permitting, real estate acquisition, procurement, and construction, all with a safety-first mindset. We have the capabilities to handle nearly any overhead transmission project challenge and the experience to bring forward the solutions that make our clients and their customers successful.
Our program management and turnkey delivery options, such as design-build and engineer-procure-construct (EPC), give our clients options to streamline project execution and get their projects in-service as promised. Our experienced engineers and scientists also perform a full range of studies to help you get the most out of existing facilities. These studies include lightning analysis to improve reliability, conductor selection studies, transmission upgrade and feasibility studies, asset evaluation, and system operational-policy studies.
We work in partnership with you to deliver projects quickly and efficiently, resulting in a safe, reliable and affordable power supply for the public. We listen to what you need and deliver it, acting as an extension of your staff and seeing each solution through to project completion.
