What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I joined the Territorial Army as an officer cadet while at university. I went on to become a commissioned officer in the Royal Engineers, where I was paid to build and blow up bridges! I now have a passion for bridges as an engineering art form and have even taken my wife to Hong Kong to see a bridge being built.
What inspired you to pursue your career?
My father inspired me to become a civil engineer. He helped me understand the importance of engineering to society and turned my keen interest in how things are made into a career. As engineers, we enable others to live better lives and build the prosperity of the world.
How do you spend your free time outside of work?
I live on the edge of the Peak District National Park and am a keen cyclist, heading out most weekends to explore the numerous nearby lanes and hills. I also love sailing and have just bought a paddleboard.
